About the Illustrator
Kalena Makanui is a Kanaka Maoli/Native Hawaiian artist who grew up on Hawaiʻi Island around rainforests and lava fields. She still loves exploring the tide pools and searching for ʻopihi (limpits), pūpū (sea snails), and unauna (hermit crabs). Her favorite Hawaiʻi animal is the honu!
